Explore: What is the Self-Determination Program?
The Self Determination Program provides individuals and their families with freedom, control, and responsibility in choosing services and supports to help them meet objectives in their Individual Program Plan (IPP). It was developed as a voluntary alternative to the traditional way of providing Regional Center services. It's about making your own decisions on what services and programs benefit you or your learner. SDP provides flexibility in choosing your services, supports, and providers and can be a fantastic option for funding Educational Therapy.
Enlighten: Who is eligible to participate in the Self Determination program?
If you are a client of the Regional Center, you are eligible for the Self-Determination Program. You must attend an Orientation to the Self-Determination Program. This information is available on the Regional Center site. You should also discuss this with your RC Coordinator.
The Learning Lighthouse works with clients who are in The Self-Determination Program. Our goal is for our clients to become the most confident and independent learners that they can be. The strengthening of underlying developmental, processing, and executive function skills helps individuals increase self-awareness and control, regulation and attention, comprehension, communication, and independence.
To get started, clients must complete our Learning and Developmental Assessment. A review of your Person-Centered Plan ( PCP) along with this information will “chart the course”, and guide the goals of an individualized plan.
Empower: Clients who utilize the Self-Determination Program are empowered with knowledge and choices that can expand future options.
